Position Title: Ember Recovery Specialist
Job Description:

As a Mental Health Therapist at YSS, you will play a pivotal role in supporting youth on their journey towards mental and emotional well-being. You will conduct assessments, recommend services, and provide a safe and welcoming space for youth and families to express their thoughts and feelings. Your work will help reduce the impact of abuse or neglect, prevent family violence, help clients overcome behavioral and/or substance use challenges, and keep kids from entering foster care or the Juvenile Justice System. Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy sessions virtually.
- Perform comprehensive assessments and develop treatment plans.
- Provide crisis intervention and support.
- Collaborate with other professionals to coordinate care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

MUST HAVES – Required Qualifications
- Completed or in-progress Master’s degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, or psychology.
- Current license (LISW, LMFT, LMHC, LMSW) to practice in the State of Iowa, or a temporary license with the intent to seek independent licensure.
- One (1) year of experience in individual, group, and family therapy.
- Two (2) years required for independently licensed therapists.
- Formal training in the field of behavioral health.
- General understanding of the issues facing at-risk youth and their families.
- Excellent observational, listening, verbal, and writing skills and fluency in English.
- Ability to travel to schools and clinics within 25 miles of any YSS office location.
SHOULD HAVES – Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and training in the identification and treatment of behavioral health disorders .
- Two (2) years of experience working with children and families.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
- Proficient with the majority of Microsoft Office applications and basic database use.
- History of working with youth and families.
The IDEAL Candidate:
- Has a positive, team-based approach to treatment and working with clients.
- Is compassionate, patient, and empathetic, with the ability to relate to diverse populations.
- Can engage youth and establish rapport in creative ways.
- Speaks a language(s) in addition to English.
