Position Title: Ember Recovery Advocate
Job Description:
YSS is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and fun Recovery Advocate to join our Cambridge, IA team on our newly-opened Ember Recovery Campus.
Recovery Advocates support each and every participant from day one and continue through the months after they leave the program. They ensure that each participant is assessed on education, life skills, and/or job training needs and serve as case management to assist each participant in moving toward self-responsibility and sobriety/ The Recovery Advocate ensures that participant needs are met and will always advocate for more resources, supports, and community involvement. Additional duties include:
General:
- Relates to participants in a caring, supportive, and therapeutic manner:
- Supervises Mentors and 12 Step Contacts.
- Helps plan and carry out group activities, including birthdays, graduations, etc.
- Collaborates with residential leadership and colleagues about participant status and any program updates/changes.
- Serves on a rotating “on-call” for runaway reports and crisis situations.
New Admissions:
- Prepares for new admissions, including bedroom and bathroom assignments, and identifies substitute staff to cover when not available
- Orients new participants with program and facility, including evacuation routes and emergency procedures
- Supervises unpacking of new participants and packing of discharged participants. Keeps a clothing inventory on each participant.
- Appropriately searches participants and participants’ belongings at admission and at other times, as appropriate, reviews participant’s crisis prevention plan and updates when needed.
- Inventories participant’s belongings and gets any necessary items that are missing
While in the Program:
- Advocates for the participant to have access to additional resources and supports.
- Assures personal hygiene of participants through teaching proper care of body and clothing and the living quarters.
- Distributes medications at appropriate times .
- Creates a transition home plan with the participant, guardians, residential counselor/therapist, and school.
- Communicates transition home plan with the program team.
At Discharge and Afterwards:
- Completes all discharge paperwork and check lists.
- Follows-up with participant after the discharge to provide extra support. Documents these contacts in EMR.

MUST HAVES – Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field.
- Two (2) years of directly related experience
- Individuals in recovery should have at least two years of current, continuous sobriety before applying for this position.
- Travel, including transporting clients, is required for this position. For YSS insurance purposes, you must:
- be 21 years of age,
- have a valid, state-issued, driver’s license,
- have a clean driving record, and
- have adequate insurance coverage per YSS policy.
