Peer Recovery Specialist

The Abbe Center for Community Mental Health is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist for the Cedar Rapids Office. The position is fulltime, mostly daytime hours, M-F. This position is with our Substance Use Disorder Team. Primary qualification for the position is lived experience in recovery from co-occurring substance use disorder and mental illness. Job tasks include working as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team using abstinence, harm reduction, or moderation approaches depending on client choice and needs. Other SUD team services include ASAM assessments, individual and group counseling, Medications for Addictions Treatment. PRS connects with clients, seeks resources to meet unmet needs for shelter/food/week/healthcare/residential/withdrawal mgmt treatment, facilitates SMART Recovery Group, encourages client choice in treatment options, support, and role models self-advocacy, helps find meaningful opportunities for community inclusion, co-creates recovery promotion plans. Position requires valid driver’s license, background check, and completion of state approved Peer Support training within six months of hire. Two years of Human Services experience preferred but not required
